About the Position
Glatfelter Insurance Group is seeking an Underwriter to join our Glatfelter Public Entity team. Our new associate will be responsible for underwriting and managing a book of business within an assigned territory. Working within a specific underwriting authority, the Underwriter independently qualifies and prices new and renewal business consistent with program underwriting guidelines and pricing directives. The Underwriter is also responsible for servicing accounts in accordance with service standards.
What We’re Looking For
- Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience as a Property & Casualty Underwriter, or 3 to 5 years of industry experience as an underwriting assistant, CSR or agent/ agency management.
- B.A. degree in insurance, business or related field preferred and/or professional insurance coursework
- Must attain or be working toward AU, CPCU, ARM designation or comparable higher insurance education
- Must have or attain within three (3) months current property-casualty license for state of residence and other licenses as may be required.
- Must have a working knowledge of all commercial insurance.
- Analytical ability is required to exercise underwriting judgment and make decisions.
- Organizational skills and ability to handle tasks on a priority basis required to maintain consistent high quality and quantity of work.
- Effective negotiation skills
- Ability to work independently
- Effective oral and written communication skills including formal and informal presentation skills
- Ability to cope with stressful situations.
- Good research skills and detail oriented
- Proficient in IT tools, and software applications.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Completes underwriting qualification and pricing of new business and renewal submissions, using discretion and independent judgment to accept, reject or modify submission proposal.
- Underwriter is responsible for producers and/or account relationship building and is the primary point of contact for producers in his/or her assigned region.
- Analyzes and reviews underwriting information including applications, MVR's, loss notifications, loss runs, inspections, financial reports, websites, supplemental applications, budgets, and audits
- Demonstrates working knowledge of program forms and endorsements, including various manuscript forms required on more complex accounts and program rating methodology.
- Responsible for accuracy of final policy product and complies with all quality control and state filing requirements
- Monitors risk control and claims activities.
- Maintains OnBase files consistent with standard file procedures
