About the Position

Glatfelter Insurance Group is seeking an Associate Vice President, Litigation Manager for our Glatfelter Claims Management (GCM) division.  This role will be responsible for providing expertise in the evaluation and resolution of high exposure, complex and litigated commercial liability claims. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Controls indemnity and expense amounts for such claims within assigned authority.
  • Set and ensure implementation of litigation and settlement strategies through regular committee/roundtable discussions with claims leadership.
  • Provides strategic advice and direction to claims associates relating to pre-litigation or litigated matters.
  • Primary departmental responsibility for selecting, monitoring and managing the network of independent counsel necessary to efficiently and effectively handle claims on a nationwide basis.
  • Primary departmental responsibility for evaluating counsel performance and ensuring compliance with established philosophies, protocols, and litigation management guidelines.
  • Primary departmental responsibility for attorney/partner relationships from a management standpoint.
  • Provides direction/assistance to Line of Business Leaders in the development of training and/or communications to provide awareness and understanding of standards and procedures.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent industry experience required.  JD preferred.
  • Minimum five (5) years of multi-line claim experience handling complex and high exposure commercial liability claims to include litigation management  
  • Industry designation(s) a significant asset.
  • Must have or obtain appropriate licenses within an aggressive period of time.  Maintains licenses by fulfilling state continuing education requirements.
  • Authoritative knowledge of litigation management. 
  • Authoritative knowledge of complex insurance coverage and procedures. 
  • Skilled negotiator and communicator – will be depended upon to influence others, especially those outside the organization. 
  • Skilled at research and outsourcing to achieve authoritative opinions on a wide range of issues.
