About the Position

Glatfelter Insurance Group is seeking a Vice President, Head of Technical Claims.  This is a key position within our Glatfelter Claims Management (GCM) division and the individual will be a part of the Leadership Team.  The primary responsibilities will include the direct handling of the company’s high exposure claims, aggregate tracking, training of staff and assisting the President of Claims Management with various key initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver superior claims services and capabilities to maintain GCM as the service provider of choice in the marketplace. Develop, position, market, and deliver superior claims services and capabilities in a manner that effectively leverages GCM’s strengths as a competitive differential in the market. Ensure a reputation of Claims excellence in the marketplace.
  • Ensure meaningful reporting on claims intelligence and analytics and sharing relevant insights with Glatfelter Underwriting Services leadership teams. 
  • At the direction of the President of GCM, lead ongoing Claims strategic initiatives through programs that foster an environment of continuous improvement. This includes, but is not limited to, working to maintain an effective litigation strategy. 
  • Conduct book reviews, as necessary, to ensure the adequacy of reserves and that the larger claims are being handled in accordance with GCM best practices.  Provide feedback to handling adjuster with regards to potential strategies to ensure optimal outcomes. 
  • Work closely with various claims team to monitor and report on aggregate claim events, such as catastrophes, class actions, etc.
  • Work throughout the various Claims teams to serve as a technical resource for higher complexity claims.  Participate regularly in roundtables, pre-trial and pre-mediation meetings, etc. 

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum BA/BS degree or equivalent
  • AIC, CPCU, Claims Law, JD, preferred
  • Minimum of 15 years of claims handling experience in all commercial property & casualty lines of business.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the handling of complex, litigated claims.  Preferred experience in the handling of public entity matters as well as pollution claims. 
  • Obtain required adjuster licenses within an aggressive timeframe and maintain licensure renewals by obtaining required continuing education credits.
  • Technical Qualifications: 
  • Strong verbal and written communication and time management skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of insurance policy forms, coverage, and procedures.
  • Expertise in the handling litigated files.
  • Must be familiar with PC operations and have or obtain a working knowledge of related departmental systems and software.
