About the Position

Glatfelter Insurance Group is seeking a Sr. Underwriter in our Brokerage Services division.  The underwriter will independently qualify and price new and renewal business.  The underwriter is also responsible for servicing accounts in accordance with service standards. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently select, monitor, and price new and renewal business according to Company guidelines per Underwriter’s level of authority.
  • Develop strong, long term relationships with wholesale brokers and clients to profitably grow a book of business
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions, & deal structure with brokers.
  • Market our products and services. With flexibility to travel to assigned agents as required.
  • Independently underwrite risks of any level of complexity.
  • Use various underwriting tools available to you to gain a deeper understanding of your portfolio to predict and root out poor performing products and lines of business.  Identify loss drivers and determine solutions to grow a profitable mix of business.
  • Advise, make recommendations to, and generally assist the Line of Business leader in the development and administration of the company’s technical underwriting philosophies, objectives, and product pricing.
  • Make recommendations to the Line of Business leader regarding the analysis of statistical information provided by data processing and industry services to improve our underwriting and profitability.

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum of 5 years of Commercial Insurance Company, Agency, or Brokerage experience.
  • Must have or attain within three (3) months current property-casualty license for state of residence and other licenses required.
  • Graduation from college with a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • Working towards (or completion of) CPCU preferred.
  • Working knowledge of US Casualty lines of business including product features, forms, regulatory environments, and risks etc, ideally in the Surplus lines or Excess Casualty space.
  • Demonstrated sales, marketing, and relationship building experience.
  • Ability to work in dynamic, rapidly changing environment, adapting to changing requirements and collaborating with a wide range of colleagues to quickly deliver solutions.
  • Analytical ability required to exercise underwriting judgment and make decisions.
  • Organizational skills and ability to handle tasks on a priority basis required to maintain consistent high quality and quantity of work.
  • Effective negotiation skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills including formal and informal presentation skills
  • Willingness to be flexible, learn on the job, and maintain a can-do attitude.
  • Proficient in IT tools, and software applications.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently while also supporting team members as needed.
